Answers:
question:
1. Where is the Student SSN
entry field?
answer: The SSN as an ID is
being phased out, this new version will allow you to search by Last Name, First
Name, Student ID or SSN currently, but it is recommended that you begin asking a
Students name and using that to search on for the future.
question: 2. What if I get logged out while I am in the
process of registering a student? Will their schedule be lost?
answer: Everything that you had
registered them for will be saved in the system. Once you log back into the
student's record, the courses will appear.
question: 3. FAS indicates that my advisee has a
registration "hold" and I can't register him/her. What should I do?
answer: Contact the Office of
the Registrar and provide the student's name and social security number in order
to find out which office placed the hold. The advisee must clear the hold in the
appropriate office before being allowed to register.
question: 4. I am a full-time faculty member and should
have an FAS account username. Why am I getting an error message regarding my
username?
answer: The problem could be
one of two common errors. First, be sure to include the letters FAC and the
underscore character _ before you enter your initials. Second, if your last
name is longer than seven characters, remember to truncate it to seven. For
example, faculty member John Smithermans username is FAC_jsmither.
question: 5. Why does the system log me out during the
middle of an advising session?
answer: For security purposes,
the system is set to log itself out when no action or movement within the
program occurs for five minutes.
question: 6. I put a student in the wrong section of a
course inadvertently. How do I make a correction?
answer: Use your mouse to click
on the Drop button on the left side of the course you wish to drop, and then
add the correct course.
question: 7. Why did I receive an error message stating
There were no courses which matched your specifications, when I tried to print
my course roster?
answer: Make sure you selected
the correct semester.
question: 8. Why am I asked to print a copy of the
students schedule and have him/her sign it?
answer: The signed schedule
replaces the previously used Registration Cards, which required the students
and advisors signatures. A student signature verifies that the schedule is the
one desired by the student, and provides opportunity to correct any possible
errors.
question: 9. My advisee needed permission to register for
a music course. I sent him to the dean of my school (Humanities). Why was my
dean unable to override permission and register the student?
answer: Only the Dean of the
appropriate school can override the special permission requirement; i.e.,
permission for registration in a teacher education course can be overridden only
by the Dean of the School of Education. Advisees in one school, needing any
override for a course in another school, must complete a Permission for Override
Form, secure the signature of the appropriate dean, and bring the form to the
Office of the Registrar, where they can be registered for the course
question: 10. Why do I get an error message when I enter
a student's social security number at the advising option?
answer: You may not have access
to advise this student. Please contact the Advising Office.
question: 11. My advisee wants to take a course requiring
permission from the dean of my school. How can I register him/her in this
course?
answer: Use the regular (blue)
Drop/Add card and have the advisee record the course information in the "Add"
section of the card. The advisee must take the card to the dean, at which time
the dean can (1) enter the course, or (2) sign the card and send the advisee to
the Office of the Registrar to have the course entered. Of course, the dean also
has the option to deny permission.
question: 12. Why do I get a message stating, "Your
schedule is full," when advising and registering a student?
answer: The student is
attempting to enroll in more than the normal credit load for a semester. The
student should be advised to enroll within the suggested limits. Permission for
override will require completion of the regular Drop/Add (blue card). The
student must then get permission from the Vice President for Academic Affairs in
order to take more hours than the normal credit load. If the student gains
permission, then they will bring the Drop/Add card to the Office of the
Registrar to conplete the process and be registered in the course(s).
question: 13. Why does the system prevent me from
allowing a student to drop all his courses?
answer: When a student drops
all courses, this process must be treated as a withdrawal from the University.
All withdrawals of this nature must be processed through the Office of the
Registrar. For this reason, students cannot drop all courses through FAS.
question: 14. After checking Course Availablity, I
notice that a course is CLOSED, but has open seats in it. How can this be?
answer: The course is a
cross-listed course with another department. Check your catalog to verify that
it is.
